I go to Turtle Rock (www.turtlerock-retreat.com) twice a year, May and October. My mom (Judy), my Aunt Martha (FAM), my bestie (Melody), Heidi (Melody's sister) (well actually...I feel like Melody and Heidi are my sisters just different mothers), and Arlene (master quilter in her own right!!). My dear friend Myra takes turns with Arlene and she goes in October.
Here's the place where we giggle, eat, sew, and vent/discuss our lives/families and whatever comes up. Not necessarily in that order!! However, we have several topics that are off limits....not the common topics, like religion or politics....just topics that gets my mom revved up and we have to listen to......Like high fructose corn syrup or the Harborcreek Walmart....etc.... We love her and she is very knowledgeable about lots of stuff...but when you hit a hot spot....sit back and relax....let it run it's course.... She has a great sense of humor and lets us tease her.....but let me just add...she gives it as good as she gets it!!!
These ladies are my life line and I feel very blessed to have such a great group of women to share my life with!! We range in age from 83 to 44....it is so neat to discuss current topics and how they are viewed differently by the generations!
I'm packed and ready to start my journey!
Tommy was sooooo trying to figure out how to go along with me.
First stop....Melody's house to pick her up!!!
Lastly we pick up my mom. We couldn't get one more item in my Element!! Looks like we are going for a month...but no...just a few days.
Hour and fifteen and we arrive at Turtle Rock!! Let the fun begin!!!
This is our sewing area before we get all set up....
They provide us with a wagon to help us get our stuff from the car to the house......
Someone thought it said Viagra....so we nickname it that and have called it that ever since....LOL
Here's Candace....she is the owner of Turtle Rock. Along with running the "Rock" as we call it...she is a longarm quilter and teaches quilt classes at Eden Sewing Center (www.edensewingcenter.com) . She does beautiful quilting!! We always look forward to seeing her and her husband and catching up with them!! Turtle Rock is an awesome place in Angola on the Lake, NY. Great for what ever your craft is!! Her web site has great pictures of how lovely this place is!
Aunt Martha (Right) and Arlene (Left) arrived!!!!
After we got settled and started sewing....I took time out to have Aunt Martha's famous Hooty Creeks! Aunt Martha brings these cookies (she can't come if she doesn't have them :) ) everytime! They have oatmeal, craisins, white chocolate chips, pecans...etc YUMMMMMMY!!! Note the nice mug rug.... Melly made it and a few others.... Just perfect for my pop and cookie!!
Aunt Martha was the first to layout a quilt on the design wall.
And here's my mother "showing her little sister how it looks best"..... Big sisters know best!!
Isn't this Be-you-ti-full (that's how we pronounce it).
Our day was completed by a visit from Scott Shaefer of Eden Sewing Center.....We are his favorite customers! Well that's what we think...so it must be true! More on Eden Sewing and Scott later.
I ended my day ....well I wasn't very productive....but we don't keep track of progress...thank goodness! Anyways....I ended my day by getting caught up on my hexies!!
Happy Sewing!
Jill
